Clean Blue Waters for Orleans

A letter to our members and friends:

If you believe that water is the heart and soul of Orleans, you will want to read this letter.

We are loving our waters to death and their degradation threatens our quality of life, our property values, and the economy of our town.  But there is hope for our waters.  Clean Blue Waters for Orleans is OPC's all-out effort to ensure that every citizen, homeowner, and resident of Orleans will become an informed participant in the single most important decision we will make as a community in 2008:  the passage of a Comprehensive Wastewater Management Plan (CWMP) that will save the waters of Orleans from future degradation.

OPC's Clean Blue Waters for Orleans campaign is a community-wide public outreach and education effort to bring us all together to solve our complex water issues before it's too late.

Its signature component is The Orleans Blue Pages -- A Guide to Protecting Cape Cod Waters. This 58-page guide explains everything you need to know about water but were afraid to ask -- with lively commentary, important statistics, and full-color illustrations.  A complimentary copy was mailed to every household in Orleans this summer.

But that's not all.  OPC is spreading water enlightenment through extra editions if its Ponderings newsletter ... has just opened a brand-new website... will be covering all the wastewater public meetings and other community forums ... and much more.

To accomplish all of this we need your support.  We have already received $5,000 in contributions and the Friends of Pleasant Bay have offered $10,000 in matching funds to help us raise the $35,000 needed for the Clean Blue Waters for Orleans campaign.  That means, if you send in your contribution quickly, it will be doubled.  We desperately need your generous support for this one-time fundraising effort to save our waters.  While contributions of $50, $500 or $5000 are needed, we would appreciate any amount that you feel comfortable giving.  I know you will give whatever you can.

Thank you for your support and commitment to this crucially important effort.

Sincerely,

Judith Bruce
